The Best Friendship Movies

I took a sick day today and spent the last couple hours watching Friends with Kids. It was entertaining enough for a couch potato movie day. I do love Jennifer Westfeldt. But it certainly wasn’t my most favorite friendship movie.

In no particular order, my favorite BFF movies are:

1. Beaches

2. Now and Then

3. The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants

4. Old School

5. Mystic Pizza

6. Romy & Michelle’s High School Reunion

7. A League of Their Own

8. The Outsiders

9. Bridesmaids

10. Mean Girls

You? Weigh in on what I missed. (Confession: I’ve still never actually seen all of Thelma & Louise.)

  1. Definitely Beaches and Thelma and Louise!

  2. Sasha

SISTERHOOD OF THE TRAVELING PANTS!!!! Love those books/movies!!!

  3. Aww I love these movies! I also really love Bend it Like Beckham and Muriel’s Wedding

  4. I think my idea of good “BFF” movies and yours drastically differ; that playlist sounds akin to a salted cheese grater to the private areas.😉 Which is quite alright, varying tastes keep the world interesting; I just won’t be joining you for movie night anytime soon.

  5. Great list! But also: The Station Agent. It’s about the importance of making connections.

  6. Fried Green Tomatos! My fave

  7. I like a lot of the movies on your list. I would also add “The Trouble with Angels.”

  8. I have to admit I’ve never seen most of those! I think I’ve seen Beaches and I’d agree it’s a good film🙂 My favourite movies are kids films😀

  9. Love your list! Additions? I agree with Angela and “Fried Green Tomatoes”, I would add “Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood” and you need to make time to watch “Thelma and Louise” even if it’s just to check out a young Brad Pitt.🙂

  10. Your list is great, but your are missing Sex and the City. The first one. The one where the girls go on Carrie’s honeymoon and Charlotte has a accident in her pants. It has love, heartbreak, and in the end it’s tied up in a pretty little bow just like I like my movies to end.

I think Bride Wars is a great movie about friendship🙂

  12. I liked Friends With Kids. But Bridesmaids is definitely my favourite.

    Steel Magnolias comes to mind…

  14. Jenny

Love your list!! Beaches is clearly number 1 in my book too. That movie never fails to make me cry hysterically. Another favorite to add to the list is SHAG! So good. Also, American Tail…even though it’s a cartoon, the friendship between Fievel and Tiger is incredibly sweet.

  15. How about ‘Fried Green Tomatoes At The Whistle Stop Cafe’?

  16. Marti

Love your list! The Sweetest Thing is one of my favorite bff movies. It’s rated R and definitely earns that rating fyi but it cracks me up to compare it to some of the situations my friends have gotten into.

  17. Christina

If you’re talking about friendship and not just female friendship, you got to add Wayne’s World to the list.

  18. Suzanna

Here what about the best movie of all time…The Shawshank Redemption…a great portrayal of male friendship. But Beaches has one scene that really has stuck with me over the years…when Hillary shows up to reconnect with CC, and CC says “you took that friendship away, you never even asked me..” I have always thought that scene really voiced something most of us have felt it one point…Ok I have to watch beaches this weekend with my daughters!

  19. emily

Reality Bites….I LOVE that movie about post college friendships. A 90’s St. Elmos

  20. My favorite friends movie is Bride Wars.
