Yesterday I was lucky enough to do a panel discussions with Jenny Lawson, aka The Bloggess. For those of you who don’t know Jenny, she’s only a #1 New York Times bestselling author and one of the most popular bloggers out there. Her book, Let’s Pretend This Never Happened, is hilarious. I haven’t laughed out loud that much in a long time. And her fans. Well, her fans come to her events with props. Like giant red tutus and ball gowns. Or metal chickens. Or stuffed cats, worn as hats.
I know this because I stared at two girls wearing stuffed cats on their heads for 45 minutes during our panel. It was awesome.
I was obviously thrilled to share a stage with Jenny and, luckily, we totally hit it off. Well, I think we did — maybe she would tell a different story, but I don’t think so. I mean, she said I looked like a smiling version of Kristen Stewart. That’s got to equal friendship.
When we first met, Jenny mentioned she didn’t have a chance to read MWF Seeking BFF yet. Considering she’s been on a 15-city book tour since April, it’s understandable. And then she told me that when she asked the organizer about my book, her exact(ish) words were: “What’s the story? Is it that she’s really snobby so she thought no one was good enough to be her BFF?”
The organizer–thank you organizer!–said: “Oh no. She’s basically looking for you.”
It’s true! I’m just looking for someone to be awkward with. But you guys already know that.
So we had a great time discussing our personal choices of Harry Potter wand (me: Ginny; Jenny, er, Jenny’s 7-year-old daughter: Hermione) and how jeans are not as comfortable as everyone lets on. And then, somehow, I ended up wearing this…
Because apparently, when you do readings with Jenny Lawson, her dedicated readers invite you to try on their massive red tutus.
Anyone who loves tutus is a friend of mine. Done and done.
Is there a blogger out there (ahem, present company excluded of course) that you’d want to be friends with? And if you haven’t already, check out Jenny and her new book, Let’s Pretend This Never Happened. I dare you not to laugh.
Reminder! MWF Seeking BFF is in stores now. It’s perfect summer reading material, if I do say so myself. Easy reading, but with enough meaty content to keep your brain sharp in the summer heat. How can you resist?

Yesterday was such a fun event! Jenny’s fans are certainly fun and she’s downright hysterical. I can’t even read her blog at work for fear of laughing myself into tears. You two were an entertaining duo and I’m so glad I got to meet and chat with you, still bummed that I only had my kindle version of your book! I remain so grateful to you for putting your experience into words. So many of us are going through the same thing and it was such a relief to know It’s not JUST ME! I joined a book club on meetup.com today… all total strangers. Your book gave me the push I needed to just do it!
As for a blogger I’d be friends with: I’d probably pick Jen Lancaster from jennsylvania.com because she’s snarky and hilarious… and she has a pool! Or Sherry and John from YoungHouseLove.com because I have color swatches painted on our bedroom wall and just can’t decide and there’s quite the throw pillow conundrum going down in the living room!
Hands down, I’d pick Jules from Go Guilty Pleasures. I laugh out loud while reading her blog, and always relate to her posts in some way. She’s hysterical and I know awkwardness would abound if we hung out, in an embarrassingly delightful way! http://goguiltypleasures.com/about/
Jules IS hilarious! Love her blog.
Oh my gosh, you guys!!! This totally makes up for sitting at The Geek Table in middle school! I was wondering why I got referrals from this site yesterday, and I’m SO glad I did – this blog is as awesome as you both! (Oh and in case anyone’s confused, I just changed my blog name yesterday from Go Guilty Pleasures to Go Jules Go, LOL While I’m sad to give up my porn-and-pedophile demographic, I’m excited about what the future holds.)
Can you tell I’m glowing behind my ‘stache?
Hmm, I have not heard of this blog, JulesgoGo, or something like that. Must chek it otout! I just hope chipmunks aren’t involved.
You thought I spelled those words wrong, didn’t you?? hehe

Here’s a fab article from one of my favourite blogs http://mfwseekingbff.com – finally our two worlds have collided and she is making new friends whilst wearing tutus! Brilliant! x
April of Regretsy.com ♥
I bought and downloaded Jenny’s book but haven’t read it yet. 😦 I am in the middle of another one at this moment. Like Jenny’s book, I have downloaded YOUR book… So I guess the question is which book do I read after the one I am currently reading? 🙂
Perhaps its not fair for me to vote, but I’d love to hear what you think of MWF! Thanks so much for downloading it!
Well, I\’m already friends with the blogger I\’d most want to be friends with…. YOU. But a close second would be… um…. YOU. Although, I\’m now mad at you because I\’ve spent the last half hour reading Jenny\’s blog when I need to be writing! Damn you, MWFIAT! (That\’s Married White Female in a Tutu).
Wow – a panel with The Bloggess and a “smiling Kristen Stewart” compliment. Could life get any better?
I LOVE your outfit, and THANK YOU for finally admitting the truth about jeans.
I came to the show to see Jenny and ended up at my library’s mobile site, reserving your book to read. A four-year veteran of the “seeking BFF” trials (and single to boot!), I couldn’t wait to see how someone else’s search turned out. And I agree with your mother- You could totally make some serious $$ being the rent-a-friend!
